There are over 330 migratory and resident bird species in Punta Leona. Most famous of all are the scarlet macaws. In recent years a nesting program has helped to increase the large population of scarlet macaw parrots which can be seen frequently throughout the day flying overhead from tree to tree sharing space with white-faced monkeys.
A free nocturnal guided walk is also available through the beach club. Learn about the insects and animals that come to life when the sun sets.
For those who like to walk or run in the mornings, the beaches are always a good option but so is the main road into Punta Leona – from reception to the gate and back is an approximately 9km scenic tour. It is not uncommon on this route to spot pizotes, scarlet macaws and even a sloth if you’re lucky.
Punta Leona has it very own zipline adventure. Glide from tree to tree and get a bird’s eye view of the lush vegetation down below and appreciate the massive size of the jungle trees and foliage. The friendly staff that work here make this a fun activity for any age.
Take dance lessons and learn popular Latin dances like salsa, still a favorite for all ages at the dance clubs. Move your feet in other ways, hike one of three trails, play a game of mini-golf, soccer, tennis or volleyball with your friends.
But if you’re feeling a little less active maybe visit the butterfly farm and discover the many different species Costa Rica has. Or you can just relax at one of the three pools within the resort.
